Research
The design process began with primary and secondary research to understand ChatGPT as a product, its competitive market, and its target users. Initial observations reveal that ChatGPT is ahead of its competitors and widely used by academic researchers, travel planners, copywriters, and debaters. However, various critiques suggest that users would benefit from an enhanced experience with additional features and an improved interface.

Main findings
• Users tend to regenerate answers for a single question. • Users refer to previous chats but frequently give up and restart the chat due to the inconvenience of scrolling through and locating the chat among others. • TTo share results, users prefer screenshotting or manually copying and pasting the answer instead of using the "Copy to clipboard" icon suggested by ChatGPT. • Users find it frustrating to wait for ChatGPT to finish generating an answer, as they do not know exactly when it will be completed. • Users frequently ask similar questions and wish they could have predefined prompts, such as "make the following paragraph shorter…," to streamline their requests.

Main findings
• Users tend to regenerate answers for a single question • Users refer to previous chats but oftentimes give up and re-start the chat with the same question as it is not comfortable for them to scroll and find the chat among others • To share the results, users opt for either screenshotting or manually copy-pasting the answer, rather than using the "Copy to clipboard" icon suggested by ChatGPT • Users find it annoying to be waiting for ChatGPT to finalise the answer as they do not know when exactly it will finish • Users mainly refer to ChatGPT for the same inquiries, therefore they wish they could simply have the beginnings of the question already typed up, such as "make the following paragraph shorter…"

Heuristic evaluation
ChatGPT guarantees users access to desired information, but how effectively does it support the core task of keeping retrieved information readily accessible? To address this, a heuristic review of the chatbot's interface was conducted, revealing several usability issues. Here are key insights and recommendations for enhancing the user experience.

Heuristic evaluation
ChatGPT offers a guarantee of receiving desired information, but how well does it support the core task of always having retrieved information accessible? In order to answer this question, a heuristic review of the chatbot's interface was conducted which uncovered several usability issues. Here you can find critical insights and recommendations for improving the user journey.
Recognition rather than recall
The aim is to minimise user's cognitive load by limiting the amount of information, options and actions.
ISSUE
The homescreen shows a high load of information that is beneficial for future use only and lacks the context for the natural flow.
RECOMMENDATION
Relocate these pieces of information elsewhere in order to simplify user's initial interaction with the chatbot.

Visibility of the system status
The aim is to clearly demonstrate the features that the chatbot has to offer.
ISSUE
Chatbot fails to demonstrate how to start new chat or find an exact previous chat.
It also fails to communicate that new questions cannot be sent while the response is generated, as the Send icon seems disabled.
RECOMMENDATION
Revisit and suggest icons that create a more intuitive experience.
Hypotheses
Some hypotheses were proposed before the user research, and two of them were confirmed.
